TIKTIK: THE ASWANG CHRONICLES

Came from watching TIKTIK: THE ASWANG CHRONICLES.

Kahit manipis ang storyline, this Erik Matti film is quite revolutionary.

Shot fully on green screen, it’s the first movie of its kind in the Philippines.

Please support and watch this film bago mawala sa mga sinehan or else you'll deprive yourself of the experience.

Nakaka-proud lang... kayang-kaya na rin talaga nating makipagsabayan sa foreign films in terms of CGI.

Kudos sa creative team behind TIKTIK! Ang galing niyo!

SINISTER

Came from watching SINISTER with Mareng Gerlie at Megamall...

The film's a bit of Amytiville Horror, a slice of Paranormal Activity and some Sixth Sense feel all-over...

It's a decent horror flick with few jump scares...

But not as scary as Insidious though...

Next stop: TIKTIK: The Aswang Chronicles...

OF ALL THE THINGS

just came home from the premiere night of GMA Films' "Of All The Things", the Aga-Regine reunion movie...

really enjoyed watching this flick...

refreshing ang character ng dalawang bida: Regine as a professional fixer sa City Hall, Aga as a Law School grad who didn't pass the Bar...

that alone, plus Gina Pareno's delightful performance as an overprotective cantankerous mother makes this movie a 'must-watch' rom-com!

Huwag niyo pong palalampasin!

BWAKAW

saw Jun Robles Lana's BWAKAW yesterday...

it's a celebration of the human spirit..

the film's major strength is its humanity...

the characters here are bigger and brighter than those you'll see in any "conventional" film...

Eddie Garcia delivers stunning performance!

Ang gagaling ng lahat ng support, most notably Joey Paras who provides immense comic relief...

this is by far one of the most touching, heart-warming Filipino films since 'Magnifico'.

Watch niyo habang nasa big screen pa! Go!

JOLOGS

Year 2000, at 20... sumali ako sa first Star Cinema Scriptwriting Contest... my first written script was "Imparsiyal", a political thriller in the tradition of Jonathan Kellerman's novels. Pero hindi 'yun ang sinubmit ko... I wrote a new one intended for the tilt, the script was entitled "Suntok Sa Buwan" with the theme 'beauty is the best revenge', its a melodrama, mas mainstream ang atake... inapi-api si girl, natutong tumayo, yumaman, binalikan ang mga taong umalipusta sa kanya... very 'Amor Powers' ang eksena...

Luckily, out of 200 plus entries, shortlisted ako sa first elimination... so naging 30 plus na lang kami... months after, deliberation again and again... down to twelve semi-finalists, I was no. 15th... super sama ng loob ko... I even wish na sana mawala na 'yung pang 12th to 14th para makapasok ako... hahaha. see, ganito kakitid ang utak ko during that time... pakiramdam ko kasi, nandun na e... nandun na.

'Jologs' by Ned Trespeces won that year, semi-finalist ang 'Videoke King' (later to be topbilled by Robin Padilla / Pops Fernandez). I remember, I was first in line sa cinema house to watch "Jologs" nung first day of showing nito... gusto ko kasing malaman kung bakit siya nanalo... at di ko na-enjoy 'yung film kasi I was busy criticizing it, hinahanapan ko talaga ng flaws and all... bitter mode? haha.

Well, after 12 years, naka-move on na rin. Just lately, after watching Star Cinema's 'The Reunion', saka ko lang naisip na "Jologs" was way better in terms of theme, production values, acting, scoring, story, etc. With its non-linear structure, the movie was ahead of its time.

I hope I got to see "Jologs" ulit... Wanna see Baron Geisler in drag again... wanna hear Assunta de Rossi utter those ultra fave lines: "Ang eepal niyo!"...

Oh, I miss "Jologs"!

GONE

 watched "GONE" with Jher Non...

Nothing special but Amanda Seyfried is good with her suitably wide-eyed performance...

could have been a great psychological thriller kung napaganda lang 'yung characterization at plot...

hindi man lang nakapantay sa "THE NET" starring Sandra Bullock...

its a very undeveloped thriller with very undeveloped characters.

THE REUNION

just watched The Reunion with Randy and Monch at Galleria...

Highly-forgettable 'yung movie...

Often times, the humor is sappy and loose...

Corny...

Puwede siyang tumayo na ibang pelikula even without the music of the Eraserheads...

BOURNE LEGACY

Was able to watch Bourne Legacy last Saturday with Monch, Randy and Edwin.

We were all excited to see parts of the film shot in the Philippines.

Lahat ng moviegoers sa loob were delighted to hear Rachel Weisz' say: "Manila... The Philippines!"...

The last 30 minutes or so of the movie showcases scenes in Manila, Intramuros, EDSA, Marikina, Palawan...

After the movie, gusto ko pumalakpak kaso wala namang nakisabay. It received mix reactions from the filipino audience. Honestly, i agree with Romeo John Arcilla saying "...

The ending shot of El Nido Palawan is so vindicating that inspite of all the odds they FOUND A PARADISE IN THE PHILIPPINES."

Personally, I enjoyed watching the movie, so much more the scenes shot in Manila. Aliw!

It was shot in a Hollywood filmmaker's perspective.

Actually, prior to shooting here, nilinis na nga, inayos at modified na mga locations like the public market sa chase scenes, aba akalain mong walang kalat. Ang linis na nga e.

Ang mahalaga, walang naging aberya ang international staff while shooting here. Wala silang complain, lalo na ang cast ng film na all praises pa nga sa filipino staff, actors sa pinakita daw na hospitality and professionalism at work.

I'm sure, mas marami pang international directors and producers ang magkaka-interes na mag-shoot dito sa atin after watching Bourne Legacy.

Lets all be happy na bukod sa nagkaroon na ng rakets 'yung mga filipino actors and production staff natin, nakita pa sa isang hollywood film ang ating bansa.

PROZAC NATION

watch this movie, you'll understand why its hard to get out of bed when you're depressed, why its hard to find a reason to live and why you just can't explain the way you feel...

saw this years ago and i was blown-away by Cristina Ricci's riveting performance...

i became an instant fan. plus, nandito si super crush Jason Biggs of American Pie...

i recommend it for anyone who goes through some mental illness resembling depression, bipolar disorder or borderline personality disorder...

sobrang makaka-relate kayo.

THE ANIMALS (CINEMALAYA)

Just came from Trinoma, watched "The Animals" with indie friends Michael and Monch.

I wasn't expecting much from this movie. In fact, it's not on my must-watch list. Hindi ganun ka-interesting ang trailer.

We were there to see another Cinemalaya film pero nahuli kami sa sched so we ended up watching this Gino Santos' debut film.

It's a beautiful film that depicts today's youth; alcohol, drugs, violence, sex, etc.

Superior direction. Excellent cinematography. Perfect casting. Disturbing, harrowing take on today's generation.

Highly-recommended! 4 / 5 rating.

Habol pa kayo tom! :)

THE HEALING / MGA MUMUNTING LIHIM

just came from watching "MGA MUMUNTING LIHIM" and "THE HEALING" at Trinoma.

Surprisingly, I enjoyed watching Jose Javier Reyes' first indie. It's like watching Sex In The City with a twist. Sobrang naka-relate ako sa character ni Iza Calzado dahil at one point in my life, feeling ko I was betrayed by people whom I considered true friends.

It's a well-written story, a near-perfect dialogue-driven drama. Interesting, engaging characters played perfectly well by the ensemble cast.

Excellent performance from Ms. Agot Isidro, the role fits her immaculately.

Love love love the ending.

Absolute cinematography by Sir Jun Aves.

I'm giving it a 3.5 / 5 rating.

As for Roño's "THE HEALING", it tries hard to match (or surpass) its predecessor horror masterpiece 'FENG SHUI".

There are few jump scare moments but it fails to hold its creepy atmosphere.

Pokwang is such a treat to watch. She should be given more serious roles in the future. The comedienne can act!

As always, Vilma and Janice de Belen provide flawless works.

Adorable Martin del Rosario lures you to his charm.

I'm giving it a 3 / 5 rating.

STA. NIñA

Just came from watching Cinemalaya film, "Sta. Niña. I'm giving the film a 3/5 rating.

The film is reminiscent of Bernal's Himala. In fact, it could pass as a modern-day version of Himala, with a male lead. Coco Martin provides a solid performance but in some scenes, he's using a "soap-Opera" acting technique (nagda-dialogue habang nakatalikod sa kausap or tumitingin sa malayo habang nagda-dialogue ang ka-eksena).

At some point nga habang nanonood, i thought I was watching Walang Hanggan. Well, it's more of the blockings siguro. Sana tama ako.

On the other hand, Alessandra de Rossi, Anita Linda and Irma Adlawan, as always, delivers sterling performances!

Pukpukan!

Remember, Nora face to face with Gigi Duenas sa isang scene? Less dialogue, subtext yet very effective.

For the Noranians, go watch it, not to compare Himala from this, but to see once more Maria Leonora Theresa, the doll... as Marikit.

Well-recommended.

THE HUNGER GAMES

Watched "The Hunger Games" yesterday...

It's a gripping tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat right up to the end.

Jennifer Lawrence is just perfect as Katniss Everdeen!

Definitely, one of the best movies I've seen in years.

Quite a movie-viewing experience.

Well-recommended.
